Clubs and activities are a great way for learners to find where they belong in their school social community and to find their niche among their schoolmates with similar interests and goals. In addition, school extra-curricular activities allow the learners to pursue their current interests and passions and perhaps even find ones they did not know they had.
Clubs at Philippine Yuh Chiau School are categorized into three (3): Umbrella Organizations, Academic Clubs, and Hobby/Interest Clubs. Each category has unique components to cater the diverse interests, if not all Yuh Chiauians, majority of them.
ACADEMIC CLUBS

- Robotics ClubRobotics is an interdisciplinary research area at the interface of computer science and engineering. It involves design, construction, operation, and use of robots. Its goal is to design intelligent machines that can help and assist humans in their day-to-day lives and keep everyone safe.PYCS; however, started allowing and supporting able Yuh Chiauians to join different Robotics-related competitions not only in the country but in other countries as well. This program is open to learners in the primary school & middle school to senior high school.
- Math-Gen ClubThis club is conceived for learners whose interests are sparked by math concepts and problem solving. Learners may not have all the knowledge that they need to be competitive, and joining Mathletes is a great way for them to get ahead in their math classes and possible compete with a team once they are ready.
- Science Olympiad ClubThis club is conceived for learners who have inclination to science- related field or if science really interest them. This club aims the learners be ready for the different contested activities during the Science-Technology Fair.
- Journalism ClubJournalism is the activity of gathering, assessing, creating, and presenting news and information regarding a given concern, topic, or issue. Its goal is to give every learner the opportunity to learn the basic journalism skills, and to influence the use of social media for disseminating factual, not fake, news and information for the benefit of mental health.Journalism Club supports the learners’ freedom to express themselves in a manner that is respectful, thoughtful, and accepted. It also allows the teachers and administrators to monitor the content to ensure appropriateness and relevance of the subject concern.
- Speech And Debate ClubThis is for learners who are good at public speaking, reporting on current events, and making effective arguments. Through this club, learners have the opportunity to hone their skills in preparation for college or university, and competitions too.
HOBBY / INTEREST CLUBS
These are clubs that focus on specific hobbies or interest of the Yuh Chiauians.
- Future Scientist ClubThis club is designed for learners who love scientific research works, and in preparation for science fair. Learners learn about groundbreaking studies in various fields, and possibly network with various experts working in actual labs to make them well-equipped for any research-related competitions.
- Book ClubThis club is for learners who enjoy and love reading without the hustle and bustle of a busy academic schedule. It is a great way for the learners to get book suggestions and keeping them accountable for keeping up with their reading. They will be able to engage in critical discussions of each book, and allowing them to share their thoughts with other members.
- Creative Writing ClubLearners who have inclination to writing short stories and wish to be the next J.K. Rowling, a creative writing club is a good place for them to start. By joining this club, learners’ writing skills will really improve as they are given opportunities to practice writing constantly and receive helpful feedback from their peers and teachers.
- Journal Making ClubLearners who love recording their every growth stage is the reason to conceive this club. It is their way of recalling what they have experienced and learned through the years. Journaling allows them to take time to reflect and improve from each day.
- Scrap Book Making ClubScrapbooking preserves each learner’s life history. It’s like a diary but a bit more personal, with a bit more art design. A scrapbook allows each learner to collect mementos, photos, drawings, and more, all while letting their imagination run wild and come up with a creative design.
- Puzzles ClubAnother solid way to get good at seeing patterns, various puzzles can be real brain teasers. This club may vary in nature like jigsaw, crosswords, Sudoku, and others related to puzzles.
- Painting ClubOne of the most versatile art forms is painting. Learners can paint in oils, acrylics, or water colors. The differing styles of painting give them near limitless options for how they choose to portray the world around them. Like writing, painting gives them the opportunity to express themselves in near infinite ways.
- Drawing ClubFairly similar to painting, just in different medium. Drawing is an economical and simple way to get into the visual arts. Learners can draw any type of subject, from portraits to landscapes.
- Origami ClubOrigami is an ancient form of art. It takes a bit of skill and practice, but with time learners soon be making wonderful pieces.
- Chess ClubChess is a complicated game that requires strategy, careful thinking, and overall practice. By joining this club, learners will have the opportunity to learn new strategies to beat their friend-opponent and practice playing against other learners, giving them a fun challenge. Learners may even get to participate in chess competition.
- Sports ClubLearners who love playing ballgames like basketball, volley, and others will definitely join this club. Playing ballgames is an unmatched way to improve coordination and speed, all while providing a workout.
- Quiz Bowl ClubThis club is conceived for learners who are into the rush of answering questions under time pressure. Eventually, learners develop their confidence to the highest level since this activity will become a natural thing to them.
- Insight 360 ClubThis club is personally conceived by the School Principal for learners who love to exchange ideas, thoughts, and insights about the world concerning diverse issues and concerns. This is to develop among learners the confidence and spontaneity in expressing their ideas. This happens in a light mode where the learners and the School Principal are like having “chit chat”.
UMBRELLA ORGANIZATIONS
These are the mother organizations of all existing school clubs/organizations.
- Student Council for Student Affairs (SCSA)This organization is the umbrella of all other organizations of PYCS, it is conducted by learners and supervised by teachers. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the SCSA is the voice of the learners. They help share learner ideas, interests, and concerns with the school wide community.SCSA officers are generally responsible for organizing activities like intramural, community service, and community outreach. Election of officers usually happens before the end of the school year.
- School PaperThe Gazette is the official school paper of PYCS, it is news-type written and published by the JSHS learners in the school. As an educational institution, it is the school’s responsibility to provide learners a healthy and quality environment that helps to develop their core skills. An internal newspaper is one of the mediums that PYCS provided to learners to ensure highest standards of education, both academic and extracurricular. The Messenger is a school paper in the primary school & middle school department. School paper is a vital school activity for the learner, and with the following objectives:
1.To Improve the Creative Skills of the Learners - having a school paper empowers learners to showcase their writing skills and voice their opinions. Since young minds are bubbling with fresh ideas, a school paper is the best way to capture these in a creative manner.2.To Build the Confidence of the Learners - when learners get a platform to articulate their thoughts without any reservation, it helps to build their confidence. Their participation in school paper makes them feel special, and it adds great enthusiastic in them to present their skills.3.To Improve Communication - a learner-run school paper is a great way to build communication between all groups in the school. They come together to interact, to brainstorm, and to ideate, and they help improve association among each other.4.To Help Build Teamwork – brainstorming and producing a school paper provide the learners with valuable experience in collaboration and teamwork that can go a long way in their lives.
