School Programs

General school activities and program offerings.

Teaching does not need to be limited to textbooks and whiteboards. There are lots of different school programs for learners of all ages. From back-to-school programs to after-school programs, the school has designed programs to educate learners and keep them engaged at the same time. These school programs are also avenues for learners who have multi-intelligences.
The school programs of Philippine Yuh Chiau School are categorized into three (3) such as: Curricular, Co-curricular, and Extracurricular.

CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

These are school-based activities designed by learning areas complementing the curriculum to provide opportunities for the learners to further develop their talents and potentials, and such activities are held during the school year.
  •  
    Save Mother Earth Advocacy Month
    This advocacy to save mother earth is spearheaded by the Science area in cooperation with all the grade level class advisers.
    The activities aim to strengthen among the members of the school community a deeper understanding and commitment in carrying out appropriate course of actions to preserve natural resources, as well as to instill a sense of responsibility and accountability in taking good care of the environment.

    Health Consciousness Month
    This is another program sponsored by the Science area in collaboration with Livelihood Education area, the school canteen personnel, the school nurse, and all grade level class advisers.
    The aim of the planned activities is to raise the awareness of the learners, parents and/or guardians, and school personnel about good nutrition which is one of crucial keys to a healthy life. There are occasions when expert(s) on this field is/are invited as resource speaker(s).

    Buwan ng Wika
    Sa pagdiriwang ng buwan ng wika, ang kagawaran ng Filipino bago pa man ang pagsapit ng buwan ng Agosto, ay naghahanda na ng pang-isang buwang selebrasyon na binubuo ng ibat’ibang mga gawain para sa mga mag-aaral sa lahat ng antas.
    Ang mga gawain ay naaayon sa pambansang tema ng pagdiriwang. Ang lahat ng gawain ay naglalayong patibayin ang pagkamulat, pang-unawa, pagtanggap, at pagmamahal ng mga mag-aaral sa pambansang wika, sa kasanayan, at sa mga kaugaliang Pilipino.

    Intramural
    Intramural is an opportunity for learners to compete against their schoolmates in various sports. It is designed to all learners for them to have fun, safe and structured play experiences that promote their physical, mental, and social development, as well as to live the spirit of sportsmanship.

    Literary Musical Show (Lit-Mus)
    Literary Music concentrates not only on song and opera, those forms in which words and music overtly confront one another, but also on a small number of recurring ideas around which the literary and the musical interact, including voice, narrative, performance, and silence. Hence, this activity was designed for the learners to showcase their skills relating to different disciplines, as well as to demonstrate the concepts they obtained.

    Chinese New Year Carolling
    Philippine Yuh Chiau School, Inc. is a private Filipino-Chinese school, hence, the celebration of Chinese New Year is a must. It is an important festival in the Chinese calendar, sometimes called Spring Festival.
    It is very important for our dear learners to learn and understand about the different ways in which other people and other cultures celebrate. Learning such as this raises the learners’ awareness and acceptance of what, how and why other people celebrate. It puts our own cultural identity and celebrations into context and increases the learners’ knowledge about other cultures.
    At Philippine Yuh Chiau School, Inc, with the Board of Trustees, Administrator, teachers, and learners, one way to celebrate it is rendering songs and lion dances to our valued partners around the town and neighboring towns.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

These are activities outside the school with different levels, and still complementing the curriculum. Participation to these activities is a very important part and parcel of educational institutions to develop the learners’ personality as well as to strengthen classroom learning.
  •  
    Palaro
    This activity aims to enhance the learners’ physical growth, moral, self-discipline, time management, and sense of responsibility. This activity also guides the learners on how to cooperate, coordinate, and cooperate in different situations – all these help in the development of leadership skills. The level of this activity is from Palarong Bayan to Palarong Pambansa.

    Schools Press Conferences
    The National Schools Press Conference is the highest competition for journalism. This activity supports frankness and clarity in language and personality. It helps to develop coordination, adjustment, speech fluency, and extempore expressions among learners. There are different contested activities for both Filipino and English categories, and there are also designed activities for individual and group.

    Metrobank-MTAP DepEd Math Challenge (MMC)
    MMC is an annual mathematics competition aimed at raising the competitiveness of learners from grade 1 to Grade 12. In partnership with Mathematics Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) and the Department of Education (DepEd), it is the longest –running math competition in the country.
    It is the only competition in Asia spearheaded by a bank, MMC provides a venue for Filipino learners to hone their mathematical skills in an atmosphere of friendly competition. Over the years, it has produced national winners who get to compete and eventually win in international competitions.

    Science and Technology Fair
    This activity has many different avenues for the learners to hone their scientific inclinations. This fair recognizes the creativity and innovativeness of more learner-researchers through several special categories. More than showcasing skills, the research projects highlight the level of awareness that the learners have about the challenges Filipinos face and solutions that these young minds can already offer.

    Robotics
    Robotics is an interdisciplinary research area at the interface of computer science and engineering. It involves design, construction, operation, and use of robots. Its goal is to design intelligent machines that can help and assist humans in their day-to-day lives and keep everyone safe.
    PYCS; however, started allowing and supporting able Yuh Chiauians to join different Robotics-related competitions not only in the country but in other countries as well. This program is open to learners in the primary school & middle school to senior high school.

    Rhythmic / Cheer / Pop Dance Competitions
    These contested activities are in support to the celebration of the Founding Anniversary of the Municipality of Cabatuan. The goal is to raise the awareness and appreciation of learners about humble beginnings of Cabatuan through active participation to the contested activities. The contested activities on dances are open to learners from grade 4 to grade 12.

    Literary Activities
    PYCS is committed to develop and hone the literary skills of learners from the very early years to older years. To help learners build their skills and achieve excellence in languages, the school is actively participating to different literary activities sponsored by the Department of Education.
    These activities enhance the learners’ talents and capabilities. The interschool competitions are organized which help to develop individual talents, gain confidence, and make learning interesting and fun-filled. These activities are open to all learners from Nursery 1 to Grade 12.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

An extracurricular or extra academic activity is an activity, performed by learners, that falls outside the realm of the normal curriculum. These activities help the learners to learn about themselves and develop and use their skills and knowledge in different contexts. For learners in the JSHS, such activities are essential elements for them to college or university.
  •  
    Student Council for Student Affairs (SCSA)
    This organization is the umbrella of all other organizations of PYCS, it is conducted by learners and supervised by teachers. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the SCSA is the voice of the learners. They help share learner ideas, interests, and concerns with the school wide community.
    SCSA officers are generally responsible for organizing activities like intramural, community service, and community outreach. Election of officers usually happens before the end of the school year.

    School Paper
    The Gazette is the official school paper of PYCS, it is news-type written and published by the JSHS learners in the school. As an educational institution, it is the school’s responsibility to provide learners a healthy and quality environment that helps to develop their core skills. An internal newspaper is one of the mediums that PYCS provided to learners to ensure highest standards of education, both academic and extracurricular. The Messenger is a school paper in the primary school & middle school department. School paper is a vital school activity for the learner, and with the following objectives:
    • 1.  To Improve the Creative Skills of the Learners - having a school paper empowers learners to showcase their writing skills and voice their opinions. Since young minds are bubbling with fresh ideas, a school paper is the best way to capture these in a creative manner.
    • 2.  To Build the Confidence of the Learners - when learners get a platform to articulate their thoughts without any reservation, it helps to build their confidence. Their participation in school paper makes them feel special, and it adds great enthusiastic in them to present their skills.
    • 3.  To Improve Communication - a learner-run school paper is a great way to build communication between all groups in the school. They come together to interact, to brainstorm, and to ideate, and they help improve association among each other.
    • 4.  To Help Build Teamwork – brainstorming and producing a school paper provide the learners with valuable experience in collaboration and teamwork that can go a long way in their lives.
