Primary School & Middle School
Success looks different now than it did in the past. The more complex the world becomes, the more creative a school needs to be to meet its challenges; and this is becoming increasingly clear in education. But while the idea of success has changed, the Philippine Yuh Chiau School has always adjusted its methods or goals for the learners to meet success.
The Yuh Chiauians who are of Chinese ancestry but with rich Filipino background and those of no Chinese blood are being prepared to be globally competent and to face the challenges of life ahead. The Primary School & Middle School curriculum further develop and enrich the foundation of the learners acquired and learned skills from the previous levels. It focuses on skills in preparation for a higher level and on Junior High School life. Furthermore, the department aims to clarify concepts for mastery and integrated skills and discipline to make learning more engaging, meaningful, and holistic for the primary school & middle school learners.

- EmpathyPutting oneself in other people’s shoes both cognitively and emotionally, learners improve their ability to resolve conflicts and understand others’ opinion.
- Respect for the EnvironmentValues Education makes learners aware of the consequences of one’s actions on the planet and instills in them respect for nature.
- Care for HealthThe need to minimize health risks by encouraging learners the right attitudes and tackling health education from a dynamic, personal, and collective points of view.
- Equal OpportunitiesThe principle that we are all equal is one of the pillars of democracy, and moreover it fosters social inclusion and community life.
- Critical ThinkingThis way of thinking is developed among the learners which makes them more analytical and observant. It teaches the learners recognize quality information and helps them solve problems.
- FilipinoMalawak ang asignaturang Filipino sapagkat binubuo ito ng Pagbasa at Wika. Sa pamamagitan ng pagbasa, nalilinang sa mga mag-aaral ang iba’t ibang kasanayan sa pagbasa at ang apat (4) na sukat ng pang-unawa: pagbasa, pagsasalita, pakikinig, at pagsulat. Bukod dito, ang iba’t ibang anyo ng panitikan na idinudulog sa mga mag-aaral ay nag-iiwan ng gintong aral na pupukaw sa kanilang damdamin, kaisipan, at gawain upang higit silang mahubog sa pagiging mabuting mamayang Kristiyano.Nagiging lunsaran ang panitikan sa pagtuturo ng wika kung saan nalilinang ang kahusayan sa pakikipagtalastasan hindi lamang sa pagsasalita gayundin sa pagsusulat sa pamamaraang komunikatibo.
- ReadingThe Reading program envisions the Philippine Yuh Chiau learners to become proficient and enthusiastic readers. It is geared toward developing the learners’ comprehension, word recognition, research, and study skills while nurturing a genuine love for reading.Within the context of literature, the learners thrive as reflective and appreciative readers, and creative and critical thinkers. Meaningful listening, speaking, reading, and writing learning activities engage the learners to seek and create meaning using the thinking skills and strategies they have acquired.
- LanguageThe Language program aims to develop in the learners their full capabilities for the four-macro language skills. They are encouraged to verbalize fluently, to express ideas clearly in writing, to spell accurately, and to write neatly and legibly.The communicative approach adhered to by the school transforms the classroom into a dynamic venue for learners to learn the use of appropriate expressions for real-life situations, explore feelings, experience life through role playing, and discover concepts and ideas through integration with other learning areas.
- Science and HealthThis program emphasizes both the conceptual structures and processes with the inculcation of scientific attitudes and values. Science and Health instruction provides for meaningful experiences through guided discovery approach and hands-on learning activities like experimenting, reporting, doing simple research, building models, working on investigation outputs, interviewing, and going on field trips within or outside the school premises.
- MathematicsThis program emphasizes both the conceptual structures and processes with the inculcation of scientific attitudes and values. Science and Health instruction provides for meaningful experiences through guided discovery approach and hands-on learning activities like experimenting, reporting, doing simple research, building models, working on investigation outputs, interviewing, and going on field trips within or outside the school premises.
- Civics and CultureThe Civics and Culture program develops young learners who will manifest in their words, actions, and ideals of patriotism, good citizenship, active participation in the social, political, and economic development of the country, cherish and preserve the national, Asian, and global heritage, and possess the courage and convictions to stand for truth, peace, and justice.
- MusicThe goal of Music Education is to enhance the learners’ musical understanding and appreciation through the ability to perceive and react to music aesthetically. This program in the primary school & middle school is a balance among music theory, music history, and music performance.
- ArtsThe Philippine Yuh Chiau School Arts program merges the creative and aesthetic aspects of the three (3) H’s. The Head by which learners’ keen sense of awareness and appreciation of beauty are developed. The Hand which is manifested in the creation of functional and creative words of art which becomes the venue for expressing the learners’ ideas and opinions other than words. and the Heart for it encourages personal expression.
- Physical EducationThe Physical Education program strives to create a fun and successful learning environment that motivates the learners to participate in physical activities while in school and that will encourage them to remain physically active throughout their lives.
- WritingThis program is continued from Preschool to grades 1 to 3 and focuses not only on improving the penmanship of the learners. Writing exercises in the primary school & middle school support development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and promotion of expression of ideas confidently. Through sentence construction and personal short story writing, learners can discover their identities and work through real-life problems.
- Computer LiteracyThe Computer Literacy program is given to learners to equip the learners with computer knowledge and skills needed to help them become competent individuals in the use of Information Technology. The program delivers understanding of computer concepts and challenging activities that will foster productivity among learners.The program offers various ways on how computer and different applications can be used to help in everyday life. It is a discipline that produces output wherein resourcefulness and creativity are nurtured and developed among learners.
- Chinese Language ArtsThis program aims to hone the learners’ communication skills in Mandarin and enhance their knowledge and appreciation of their cultural heritage. Learners are engaged in various learning activities such as oral reading, essay writing, singing Chinese songs, practicing basic conversation in Chinese, and learning the art and discipline of Chinese calligraphy.
